This was my entry for the spring challenge. Button fastenings work brilliantly with kumihimo and there are several different ways of making the loop and attaching the button. For this one I decided to experiment with making a button hole during the braiding process. Half Round Braid is ideal for this sort of technique. When I reached the required length I braided a section without crossing over the vertical cords. This automatically creates a hole and then when I could just squeeze the button through the hole I resumed the original braiding pattern and the hole closed up. The button was a brilliant find in the shop at the Museum of London. Sadly, they were unmarked and all jumbled together, so I can’t give credit to the maker. I bought three buttons in total, so look out for the other two in future designs!
