If you are looking for something to make a statement, my latest tutorial might be just that! This design was first published in Beads and Beyond at the beginning of the year. I have now reworked and rewritten the design as a tutorial for my shop.
There is more than immediately meets the eye in this design. I have included instructions for two very useful techniques, which not only make this design very effective, but can also be used for other designs. The first technique is braiding around a core. This is used to give a braid substance and stability and is particularly useful when braiding with very round beads and with larger beads. The second technique is reversing the direction of the spiral. If you look closely at the photo you will see that the spiral changes direction in the middle of the necklace. The braid structure used is Round Braid, which has a spiral construction. In order to achieve a symmetrical effect the spiral can be reversed in the middle of a braid. This technique is very useful when making a necklace with a central focal section or even just a pendant.
I have also included instructions for matching earrings to complete the look. They could also be used individually as pendants on a simple braid.
The tutorial can be found here.
