This pattern produces a distinctive braid with a plaited look and a definite square shape. It is particularly effective when braided in two colours. It is not suitable for adding beads during the braiding process. For this braid the disk is not rotated, but the movement of the cords around the disk changes from clockwise to anti-clockwise during each round.
Set up the kumihimo disk with threads in slots 32 and 1, 8 and 9, 16 and 17, 24 and 25.
Perform the following moves,
Clockwise:
1 to 7, 17 to 23
24 to 1, 8 to 17
Anti-clockwise:
32 to 26, 16 to 10
9 to 32, 25 to 16
Return the threads to the starting positions on either side, but leave the threads crossed at the top and bottom.
