The Toppitastic workshop is a great introduction to the Zoomihimo by Prumihimo workshop program because students will learn the key techniques of Prumihimo designs, which can be built on in future workshops. It is also suitable for students who have already attended a Zoomihimo by Prumihimo workshop because it is a new design.
The Toppitastic necklace design is striking to wear and fun to make. It incorporates fundamental techniques that are unique to Prumihimo and the design includes some valuable transferable skills, which you will be able to use in other work, taking your kumihimo braiding to new levels. Features of the workshop include braiding with top-hole beads (toppies), creating a more heavily beaded focal point in the front of the necklace and two post-braiding embellishment methods, using a needle and thread. The workshop is divided into 2 sessions, so that the time with me, Pru McRae, is spent learning and the braiding can be finished off between the sessions. This removes the time pressure on those who prefer to braid more slowly and everyone can start the second session at the same stage. Some pre-class preparation is required to ensure that all the class time is well-spent. A workshop with me is never just about the design. My aim is to share what I have learned in over a decade of kumihimo experience and will have lots of supplementary advice to offer and samples to show.
Please note that this Toppitastic Necklace workshop is ideal as an introduction to the Zoomihimo by Prumihimo workshop program, but it is essential that all students are are already able to braid with a Prumihimo disk with beads (this is different to the regular kumihimo disk). Shortly after booking I will contact new students and ask for a photo of a Prumihimo braid to ensure that they will be able to enjoy the class to the full. If you are not able to show me that you can braid with reasonable accuracy your money will be refunded. If you are not sure if this workshop is suitable for you please contact me and I will be able to advise you and give you some pre-workshop assistance if appropriate. Please do not book this workshop if you have never used a Prumihimo disk.
To take part in this virtual workshop you will need a device such as a laptop, computer, ipad or other tablet with audio and video. Smart phones can also be used, but the small screen size makes them less suitable. You need to have reasonably strong internet connections. Weaker connections mean that not only will your view of the demonstrations be less clear, but also that it will be much harder for me to inspect your work. You need to have downloaded the free version of the Zoom app and be able to join a meeting. It is your responsibility to make sure you have the correct equipment and knowledge to join a meeting, but lots of help is available on zoom.us and you can contact me prior to the day of the workshop for assistance.
The start time for both sessions is UK (GMT) 4.00pm/ET 11.00am/CT 10.00am/MT 9.00am/PT 8.00am . You can check the time where you live using this calculator. When you receive the zoom link please check the time carefully. This will be the correct time for your time zone.
The first session will be approximately 2 1/2 hours and the second session will be approximately 2 1/2 hours, making 5 hours in total.

What to expect in a Zoomihimo by Prumihimo workshop : A virtual workshop can be a surprisingly effective learning environment, with plenty of close-ups, repetition and feedback from the tutor. When I need to see your work I can usually see enough detail when you hold it up to your camera. Sometimes I may need to ask you to send me a photo, so that I can inspect your work more closely. My aim is also to make it a sociable occasion, so that you can get to know your fellow students. Many lovely friendships and a real sense of community are developing between regular students.
