Description

My workshops are not just about making pretty things because I aim to teach key techniques to develop transferable braiding skills, that can be used to take your braiding to new levels. In the Frosty Wreath workshop, while you make an exquisite wreath you will also be learning how to braid with a combination of cord and wire, how to drop multiple 2-hole beads and how to embellish the finished braid with both bugle beads and seed beads, using a beading needle and thread.

The Frosty Wreath workshop is divided into 2 sessions, so that the time with me, Pru McRae, is spent learning and the braiding can be finished off between the sessions. This removes the time pressure on those who prefer to braid more slowly and everyone can start the second session at the same stage. Some pre-class preparation is required to ensure that all the class time is well-spent. In the first session you will learn how to braid with wire and cord, using practise cords. Once the method has been mastered you will start to braid the wreath. In the second session you will learn how to add the embellishment. A workshop with me is never just about the design. My aim is to share what I have learned in over a decade of kumihimo experience and will have lots of supplementary advice to offer and samples to show.

A kit is included in the cost of the Frosty Wreath class and the shipping charge will be added at checkout. For international students, the shipping method will be standard, which is not tracked. If you would prefer to have your package tracked, please let me know in the comments and I will contact you for the additional £5 charge.

The kit includes the materials you will need to make the wreath and to learn the wire technique. A few extra items are included so that you can make a second wreath using your own materials. The Prumihimo disk is NOT included. Beading needle and thread is NOT included in the kit, but if requested I can put them in.

Kit Contents:

Cord and wire for practise

Cord and wire for the wreath made in class

Cord and wire for second wreath

3 oval end caps

Beads – superduos, firepolished beads, seed beads

Ribbon

To take part in this virtual workshop you will need a device such as a laptop, computer, ipad or other tablet with audio and video. Smart phones can also be used, but the small screen size makes them less suitable. You need to have reasonably strong internet connections. Weaker connections mean that not only will your view of the demonstrations be less clear, but also that it will be much harder for me to inspect your work. You need to have downloaded the free version of the Zoom app and be able to join a meeting. It is your responsibility to make sure you have the correct equipment and knowledge to join a meeting, but lots of help is available on zoom.us and you can contact me prior to the day of the workshop for assistance.

The start time for both sessions is UK (GMT) 4.00pm/ET 11.00am/CT 10.00am/MT 9.00am/PT 8.00am . You can check the time where you live using this calculator. When you receive the zoom link please check the time carefully. This will be the correct time for your time zone.

The first session will be approximately 2  1/2  hours and the second session will be approximately 2 1/2 hours, making 5 hours in total.

Instructions : Pre-class preparation instructions will be sent a few days before the class. Full instructions will be emailed to you the day before the workshop for you to either print or view during the class on a separate device. You will receive the link to the workshop in a separate email at the same time.

Class size :  The class size will vary according to demand and will usually be up to 12 students. However, please note that I have increased the maximum number of students in a workshop to 15, to allow flexibility for exceptional circumstances. This will still allow me to give each person all the time and attention they need. Each workshop booking is for one person only.

Sorry, no refunds, unless you purchase in error and contact me within 24 hours of purchase. Please check the time and date of both class sessions carefully before purchase and make sure that once you have booked your place you purchase any necessary supplies in good time.

What to expect in a Zoomihimo by Prumihimo workshop : A virtual workshop can be a surprisingly effective learning environment, with plenty of close-ups, repetition and feedback from the tutor. When I need to see your work I can usually see enough detail when you hold it up to your camera. Sometimes I may need to ask you to send me a photo, so that I can inspect your work more closely. My aim is also to make it a sociable occasion, so that you can get to know your fellow students. Many lovely friendships and a real sense of community are developing between regular students.
